Offset has been known for wrecking certain concepts and his rival artists with his rhymes for a while. However, that’s not what was being wrecked back in May of 2018. No, back then, it was his Emerald Dodge Challenger that had been wrecked. Although the rapper only suffered minor injuries, his account of the accident points to just how much worse it could’ve been.
He shared his account of the crash with DJ Clue on the radio station “Power 105.1” in May of the following year.
Though a year after the fact, Offset recalled the incident very well. He said that a lot went through his mind after his vehicle struck a tree rather hard. He stated that while he was able to get out of the vehicle and get home on foot with the help of a kind bystander, that almost wasn’t the case.
Offset also stated that he hadn’t even been aware that it was a tree he’d hit until he exited the Dodge Challenger he had been driving. He said he was mostly focused on remaining calm until the ordeal was over.
“The first thing I thought when I crashed was, get out of the car… don’t panic, because I know a lot of people die when they panic.” He said as he recalled the incident.
He continued by saying that the force of the impact actually caused the driver’s door to jam shut. The airbag also deployed, which made it very difficult for him to squeeze himself out from under that and the steering wheel to exit through the passenger’s side. He did sustain some small injuries from the airbag deployment, which included having one of his bottom teeth knocked out.
He stated this; “Luckily, I’m just skinny.
I just pushed and slid out, and then when I got out, I remember there being so much blood.” Which you would expect even from a minor car accident, and this was not one. “And my face was just burning, and (then I) just feel somebody touch me (and say) ‘You alright?’’ he continued. He also recalled being defensive in case he was recognized, saying, “ If he sees that it’s me, he might try to take something…”
The rapper then said that the male in question helped him walk back to his home there in Atlanta. It was only about a quarter of a mile from the site of the accident, but you can imagine being injured in an accident like that and having to walk anywhere. Offset eventually thanked the man and bought him a car.
When Offset arrived home and made it upstairs, his wife, Cardi B, was in shock upon seeing him in such a bloody state.
“Everybody thinking I got shot,” he said. “I had so much blood on my hands and on my face.”
A friend nearby rushed him to a local hospital. He stayed there for about a day, where he had some time to think about what happened and how it would affect him going forward. He said that the car wreck gave him a brand new perspective on how he lived. He said he absolutely could not wait to get out of the hospital and hit the studio to record.
“I was feeling so energized.” Offset recalled for DJ Clue. “I was like, ‘Man, I’m blessed. I know I’m blessed.” He quoted a hospital worker who said this; “88 percent of people that do this type of crash die because they come out the windshield.” he recalled them saying. He went on, “I didn’t have no broke bones. My eye socket was broke, that was it.”
The rapper said he thanks God every day for being so lucky and that more people should get with him. Regardless of religious leanings, he was very lucky given the type of car accident.
A possible cause for the accident was revealed by a now-deleted Tweet from Cardi B. She essentially said that he swerved and hit the tree to avoid a person in the road. The actual wording was “Crackhead” not person, but who really knows on that one. Though, who just stands in the middle of the road?
Regardless, it has not come out that Offset was on any kind of substance at the time of the crash himself. It just goes to show that these types of accidents can happen to any of us without any good or predictable reason. Though, the majority of this report is based on Offset’s recollection. No crash report was filed because Police and EMS were not called to the scene itself.
The Emerald Green Dodge Challenger was totaled from hitting the tree. It is lucky that Offset himself was not. If there were any other parties involved, they have not come forward. Granted, if there really was someone standing in the road, it’s unlikely they’re going to do so.
While no car accident is a good thing, in this case, at least no one was seriously injured or killed. There also was no legal action taken, so no one had to hire a lawyer. Offset obviously wasn’t going to be sued by the tree or vice-versa. All in all, things could’ve been much worse.
What Should You Do If You’re In A Car Accident?
This is a very popular question and pretty much has been since cars were invented. Over the years, the answer has become a bit more complicated, but all that much more important. There are a few things you need to ask yourself immediately after a car crash, so we’ll go over those first.
- Are you hurt?
- Are any passengers with you hurt?
- If the answer to both of those questions is “No.”
- If possible (with no serious injuries), can you move the crash off the road?
- Do you have any camera to take pictures and videos?
- Where are your insurance information and driver’s license?
The first question is obviously the most vital. If you are hurt, then you need to seek medical attention immediately. If possible, leave your information with someone at the scene to give to the authorities and other parties involved in the accident. However, do not forgo or delay medical attention as you can’t really tell at the scene how serious an injury is or isn’t.
You should always seek medical attention to get checked for possible injuries within the first 24 hours. Some injuries do not make themselves known for a little while. They can show up days or even weeks later. The second is actually worse if you’ve gone too far past the deadline to get checked for accident-related injuries, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
Should you move the crash off the road, if possible?
The answer to this question is “Yes” 99% of the time. Some might tell you to take pictures or videos first, but that’s not advisable on even a slightly busy roadway. It’s a good way to cause a second incident or injury. If the vehicle(s) can be moved, then do so.
You should always take pictures and video of the accident for proof later. It is also wise to keep all pertinent information in your car at all times. It is illegal to drive without your driver’s license on your person in most states. It is also frowned upon to drive your car without a copy of your auto insurance forms in your car.
Do you need a lawyer?
If you are injured in a car accident, you will need a lawyer for absolute certainty. However, even if you weren’t hurt or even seriously hurt, a lawyer is always a good idea. You can pretty much bet that the other person will hire one, and if they don’t, their insurance company will. Never sign any legal paperwork from the other party or their insurance company without consulting a lawyer first.
Lawyers can help recover a lot of what you’ll need after a car accident. Car wrecks can cause any of the following:
- Punitive Damages
- Massive medical bills.
- Lost Wages.
- Diminished life quality.
- Reduced earning capacity.
Always remember that every state in the U.S has a deadline for reporting personal injury claims. This might also be referred to as the “Statute of Limitations” by some. The insurance company you have is not in any way obligated to settle a case prior to this deadline. So, it is imperative that you hire a lawyer who’ll protect your claim.
Even if you are just looking to recover property damage repair costs, either your insurance company or the other party’s insurance company could and probably will short-change you if they can. Again, you should always get at least a free consultation from a reputable lawyer within a day or two after a car accident. If you are indeed seriously hurt, most lawyers will come to you if they need to.
